[DM-MUG] Networking and web access

This is a simple question but I don't know the answer so I'll post it 
for comment.

If I have an older machine running OS 8 and a G3 running Jag I can 
network them with a crossover cable. If one of them uses a dial up 
connection to an ISP can the other one get its access through that 
computer? If not then it seems to me the you need a splitter on the 
phone so that they can each access the line, or a router to get out. 
Is this correct?
