Hi -

I'm new to MUG - but have worked with MAC products for years - and also the
earlier Epson rigs.

I have used the Epson StylusPhoto printer 1280 for more than a year and have
found it to be absolutely super. It uses two cartridges of ink - black and
multi-colored. I print up to 11X14 photos with superb and accurate colors.

My scanner is the Epson Perfection 1650, and I have found it to be just
great - using its center, and also using it with PhotoShop 7.0.

I don't recall who wisely suggested getting separate units in order
to get the best of both (ignoring of course the cabling issue, but
that can be solved tho not optimally) -- I have now spent the better
part of a day online and also going around (OfficeMax, BestBuy and
CompUSA) checking into options and, frankly, it's a royal pain but it
appears that the top scanner/printer manufacturers are HP (PSC and
Photosmart), Epson (Perfection) and Canon (i series and canoscan).

I recall some concerns about fading of photos/color prints and
haven't yet been able to find reliable info on that - also another
issue is 4 or 6 cartridges separate or joined (color) --
so now that i have (apparently) decided that two separate machines
are probably the way to go, does anyone have any real life experience
with those made by the above manufacturers?
