The problem appears to be at their end. A 404 error is the error you get when you try to go to a webpage that doesn't exist. Without seeing what you are seeing, the only thing I could possibly suggest (long shot) is that you hold down your mouse button on the link and see if there is some sort of "Save Link Target As" choice in the pop-up menu that appears. Alternatively you might see if you could set up an e-mail program on your computer (such as Mail) and download the messages into your computer so you can avoid the quirks with their webmail software on their server.

I've tried saving it to my desktop and that didn't work either, I'm not sure if I
have another helper program to open it. The tech did mention to me last
week that he could get me another email program if I wanted. Not quite

I really haven't any knowledge of their program but a couple of
things come to mind. One is do you get any kind of message when it
will not open? The other is do you have an option with their program
to select a helper application for viewing attachments?
