[DM-MUG] Attachment dilema resolved

You didn't miss anything, I meant something else :)

I'm not referring to the attachment that you can see when you read your
messages, I'm referring to the actual FILE, or place where the
attachment is stored on your Mac. Eudora decodes and places all
attachments into a separate "Finder" folder automatically. This way
attachments are easy to search for in the Finder without even opening
Eudora. Can't do that with Mail.

Mail, Entourage, et al. store encoded attachments along with the mail
inside a cache/.mbox file. To retrieve the attachment, one would have
to open the mail program and fish out, a.k.a decode, the attachment by
doing a "Save As," export or drag-and-drop to another location.

With Eudora the attachment is decoded when the message is downloaded.
One can see or open the attachment from within Eudora, or if Eudora is
not running, all one has to do is open the attachments folder in the
Finder. It's easy to view and clean out all attachments at once and
sort them by type, size and date as with any normal folder. The
attachments folder can also be backed up separately if necessary.

There are pros & cons of both. Eudora's decoded attachments take up
more space, as they are uncompressed, but are not affected if the .mbox
file becomes corrupted. Some folks don't like the Eudora interface;
Mail is noticeably less "feature-driven" than either Eudora or
Entourage.

I use both Eudora and Mail.app and like them both. Eudora has a number
of features that I have grown to depend upon over the years and
Qualcomm hasn't changed the fundamental way their app works since I
started using it in '95. I've also never lost any mail, address, or
contact information using Eudora since 1995. That's important to me
since I run my whole business with it.
