Two different systems (desktop and laptop) and two different locations
(city and boonies). There are too many variables here to definitively say
that it is Apple's fault. If the desktop, for example, was
significantly newer and faster with the laptop being significantly older
and slower, then a brand new laptop might make things better for
LibreOffice. Likewise, if Google Docs is suffering under extremely limited
"boonies bandwidth" that could explain its lack of performance --
regardless of OS or hardware age. Google Docs doesn't really have an
"offline mode" that I'm aware of, so it needs a minimum of bandwidth to be
performant.
