[Cialug] Debian 9 as VBox Guest

Would like to get this VM running with a GUI full screen, and finding it
impossible to install GuestAdditions.

Has anyone done a Guest installation with Additions? Are there any tricks
to be aware of? Have the kernel source installed, .. and the build line
does work at the top of the VBox Install log, but it keeps dying well
into the build, so I'm thinking something is missing?
