Running your own recursive resolver is pretty easy; my general recommendation for that is Unbound.

Unless you’re extremely well connected it will likely be somewhat higher lag, but it’s as independent as you can get in a system that requires hierarchical delegation. It’s also a handy way to ban domains at a site level.
