[Cialug] Linux for Asus Eee

I'm not super familiar with the Asus Eee 904, but I personally would
not recommend that for someone's first experience with Linux,
especially if this person is relatively non-technical. From what I've
read it was relatively underpowered, even when it was introduced.
Laptops/netbooks are much more likely to have hardware that is poorly
supported as well.

I'd recommend sending your friend down to Midwest Computer Recyclers
and picking up a used desktop plus a monitor. They'd probably toss a
keyboard and mouse in for free. They sell desktops without operating
systems at a substantial discount over ones that include Windows.

That way you can install standard Ubuntu or Fedora on a system that
doesn't have poorly supported hardware, plus it has the oomph to not
disappoint performance-wise.
