[Cialug] Upgrading CentOS

Need to upgrade a CentOS box, .. have create a backup/test box and
installed patches to 5.10.

Question is - how does one normally go about upgrading [and testing] core
services like PHP & Apache? I am not that familiar with CentOS, but it
does appear that does core services do not upgrade along with the OS, so a
separate process is involved?

That will be the endpoint for a while, .. when we decide to go to 6.n it
will be a complete rebuild. Just trying to solve some weird crashes right
now.
