No you didn’t. You have typed `man ip`.

This isn’t a vi vs. emacs thing — ifconfig on linux is completely deprecated and has been for years. It doesn’t use the modern kernel interfaces, cannot control many parts of the current network subsystem, and in some cases can’t even properly display the running configuration, let alone modify it.
