To directly address your statement:  GMail is outside of my ability to
control--yes, I use it for what's essentially public communication.  This
may seem like a contradiction to you, but it's a conscious partitioning of
communication.

To address the basis of your statement, please read on:

This is a great example of a logical fallacy.

Because there are problems A, B, and C; of which C is not addressable; it
is fallacious to argue that A and B cannot be addressed.

You may also want to use DuckDuckGo to search for fallacies called
Relevance and Red Herring.
