Hello! My name is Zach Heilman, director for this year's 2012 ISU Cyber
Defense Competition, a cyber defense exercise for college students. You are
being contacted because you've either previously expressed interest in our
competitions, or you were recommended to us as someone who could
potentially benefit the competition.

For this event, students form "Blue Teams" with other students in their
school and construct computer networks running various services. This year,
these students will be required to run a web server, shell server, RDP
server, and a comprehensive backup system. This event gives students a
great opportunity to expand their knowledge, gain practical experience, and
network with professionals like yourselves.

I'd like to invite you to be part of our "Red Team" for the competition.
The Red Team's job is to analyze, attack, and penetrate into these
student-constructed networks. Two PDF documents are attached which describe
this year's rules and scenario for these student teams; these documents
also describe your role as a Red Team member, should you accept this
invitation to attend.

The event will be held *Saturday, Sept 22nd* from 8:00am-5:30pm in the
Active Learning Center of Coover Hall (please note the location change),
located on Iowa State University's campus in Ames, Iowa. Please enter the
building from the front, which is behind a stone sculpture and denoted by a
sign bearing the text "ECpE Addition".

Google Map of the competition location and parking:
http://goo.gl/maps/DNsT1

Free parking is available in a dedicated parking lot west of the building,
right behind the Biorenewables Research Laboratory. See the map for
details.

Food and drink will be provided free of charge. You are highly encouraged
to bring your own laptop or desktop computer, as our mid-level and high-end
computer resources are somewhat limited. Should you bring your own system,
we will provide surge protectors, monitors, and cabling for you. If this is
not preferable, we can provide a desktop pre-loaded with BackTrack 5 upon
request.

If you plan to attend, please reply to me as soon as possible, and no later
than Wednesday, Sept 19th. If you are not bringing your own computer and
you need us to provide one for you, please specify this in your reply.

If you would like to invite other security professionals from your
organization, please do so! Simply forward them this e-mail and make sure
they reply back to me so I know to expect them. If you have any questions
at all, please feel free to contact me by e-mail and I'll get back to you
as soon as possible.

Thanks for your support, and we hope to hear from you soon!

- Zach Heilman, Director of ISU CDC 2012
