[Cialug] Intel MB Raid Booting?

Trying to repurpose a server, .. it has the Intel RAID BIOS so I built a
RAID5 array of three disks. Installed 12.1, but the array isn't bootable,
and there seems to be no way to SET it bootable!

I had assumed since it was HW raid it would boot - is that incorrect? Is
there a way to set the array bootable, or should I trash the array and
build a primary partition on one of the disks [yeech]?
