[Cialug] Nautilus Problem

I am running Ubuntu 11.10 and the icons in Nautilus keep disappearing.
 Both files and folders, jpgs, pdfs, text files, everything, shows as
just a rectangular blank white box, like what you'd expect for an
empty file or a file with no extension to indicate what it is.  If I
do this:

     rm -vr /home/todd/.gconf/apps/nautilus-actions/ && killall nautilus

then the icons come back.  Then, some time days later, they're gone again.

Any idea what could be causing that?
