A friend of mine has a problem with printing under RH 6.0, .. has anyone
run across this sort of problem - a zero length file in the lp queue?

===========================================

The application programs for reports start with prompts to select which
items to print and the last prompt is for the printer which is opened as
soon as the printer is selected. If no items meet the selection, the
program ends and the printer is closed, nothing sent to the spooler. The
printer command is :

>lpr -PLP -#$COPIES -l 2>/dev/null.

Run on an IBM computer. Printers are net worked and the computer
also serves as a printer server for pcs in the office ... using Samba.

 Under Red Hat 6.xxx a spool file is opened. lpstat -t will show a file
with zero characters. It will sit in the spooler for about 5 min.
Nothing else can get by this zero file and the print jobs just stack up
for that printer. After about 5 min the file is removed by the operating
system and the other files are printed until another zero file is
encountered. Since the same programs ran on other operating systems
without this problem, I suspect it is something changed with Red Hat 6.xxx
settings?
