I've been holding off updates on my Debian Testing box for a couple
weeks because it wanted to update Gnome from version 2 to 3 and i
expected that would break a few things.

This morning i bit the bullet and did the update. Networking and audio
were completely borked on the system due to Gnome 3 pulling in network-
manager and pulseaudio. I got things working again by purging those 2
pieces of trash; disabling them in /etc/init.d wasn't sufficient for
reasons i didn't dig deep enough to discover. Unfortunately, removing
those required me to remove the gnome package due to the dependencies.

Does anyone happen to know how to install Gnome 3 without including
network-manager and pulseaudio? Would i have to compile it myself after
tweaking the package a bit?
