[Cialug] Restarting a system

Trying to restart a server that's been on the shelf for about six years,
it looks like the HD is not working properly - check this out:

> It grabe LILO properly, ..
> BUT won't do anything else!

Tried System Rescue, and it waits a long timw at "Loading Modules", ..
then showing disk errors.

The question is - if LILO can grab the boot sector, why would the
remaining config be trashed?
