I caught a glimpse of the page a bit ago and only a little over $700 had been given away.

I don't think so. Last night I checked and they appear to have only two web servers, one for dynamic content and ssl, another for static content.

There's over 2,000 people in the IRC channel so presumambly there's more than that hitting their website. They just can't handle the number of connections they're reporting.

Ubuntu.com uses 5 or more front end web servers for busy days and we don't use SSL or dynamic content on our website (we serve from a static cache updated at frequent intervals).

There was a contest to see how quick they can dish out 100k. I'll bet it will be lunch time before they hit it.
