[Cialug] Job Posting - Linux Admin

I know many very talented IT people who don't have a degree.
(I'm sure many in this group do.)
Unfortunately that is a difficult thing to quantify and show on a resume.

Another aspect of the issue is that having a degree is losing its value.
My father-in-law was told in a discussion with a professor at a local college,
"we are not allowed to fail students." The gist of that statement was if
you show up to class and put forth an effort, you will pass. It might not
be a very good grade, but you *will* pass.

In the last few years I've worked with some individuals who have these
generic types of MIS degrees. One didn't have any idea what DNS was
or how it worked. Another thought a VPN was a VNC/Remote Desktop solution.

I don't mean to imply that having a degree is a bad idea. It's just not
a valid indicator that the person with the degree can actually leverage
the knowledge covered in the classes they took.
