Actually Hyper-V.

I'm running static IP's, and there shouldn't be any power throttling in the
VM.  So the haldaemon can be disabled without any major adverse affects?

Concur.  It's a VM, the entire thing's really a HAL anyway. :-)  You're 
unlikely to see any significant changes (even after upgrades) that 
haldaemon would help with...

I assume this is Xen based virtualization, or have you opted to go with KVM?
