Good call on that one.

A while back, probably a bit over a year ago, there was a similar
problem related to IPv6. See notes here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WebBrowsingSlowIPv6IPv4 to see if
this applies to you.

Most people experience faster networking with Linux than XP because,
among other things, TCP Window Scaling is enabled by default.

DNS problems can definitely cause the issues you're having and are
extremely difficult to troubleshoot. There are a couple variables
here...

 * good performance for you at the office using ethernet
 * unknown performance at your office using wifi
 * bad performance for you at home using wifi
 * unknown performance at your home using ethernet

So it could be something to do with your home network or maybe it's
something to do with your wifi card. What would be awesome is if you
could test wireless at your office or ethernet at home. Or take it to
somewhere where you can test both.
