I also fell into the self trained category, but with Windows NT (3.51 and 4).
And that first Windows job is the one that threw me into Linux.

I found my old polaroid of version 3.0 of our NOC/Datacenter/Cave.
This looks like it was probably mid to late 1993. Good times.
