If it were me, (A man's got to know his limitations, and I have quite a few)
I would start with
Just getting the OS installed and sharing a folder with Windows.  From there
move on to AD integration 
Which may require some reading and re-installations to perfect your skills.

Or use one of the distros already mentioned.  OpenFiler is very slick.

Interesting that you mention f6 and driver floppies.  It is very hard to
install Windows on a machine with no floppy when a driver is required for
the Disk subsystem.  That is amazingly irritating.  How long have OS X and
Linus supported alternate installations?  </rant>
