  I recommend the motion package, I use it to drive a few streaming
webcams with grabber boards, but it can be used with IP cameras as well.

  It supports motion detection, triggered recording, motion highlighting
and lots of other security features.

  Mine is currently watching 3 cameras on an old K6-2 500.
