Sounds like your server needs your new ip so that it can allow SMTP traffic from your system. If it is running Linux add it to the access file with a relay. If it is hosted by another, get them your ip so you can relay.

Subject: [Cialug] DSL/browser issues with qwest.net basic??

Sorry to intrude upon thee group with this, but it IS a Linux problem, and
the Qwest guy couldn't help me at all..

I just setup my Qwest DSL basic service. I got the generic Actiontec 701
modem, plugged it into eth0 and tried typing in the IP they gave me right
away and it worked. The modem is on, all the lights are on. I can download
mail from my benalto.com server.

What I can't do is send mail with Kmail/smtp, with my benalto server. I
don't know why? But what really confused me was when I couldn't go to web
pages. I phoned Qwest and when I told them I had Linux they asked if I had
netscape...I did, and that works! So I can send this out with webmail,
anyway. How can I configure Firefox, Mozilla, Opera etc to work with my
DSL? And will I be able to use SMTP?

Very confused, but much much faster now

-jason

p.s. suse 9.0, ADSL 1.5 mbps apparently...
