Yea, I found tight unbareable on DSL to Iowa State and on Mediacom to Iowa
State.  I was using pretty aggressive jpeg compression too :/.  I was also
using full screen editors and switching files often (it was a java program
which is a huge strike).
It's probably the Java that made it unusable.  My understanding is that Java
uses only window level mechanisms in X and supplies ALL its own widgets with no
relations to X.
