Tom has the right idea. Eliminate all add-in devices. If it has a
speaker/buzzer on the board. It should make some kind of sound without a
video card and / or RAM installed. If you do not get that sound (post audio
error) then try removing and reseating the processor.

To answer your questions though. Yes I have seen that type of problem and
there are simply to many causes to mention.

I'd start by unplugging all devices hooked to the motherboard
(especially the harddrive) and see if it'll post. Then put things back
on one at a time.
