Well, although I have _no_ experience with Gigabit, I'd have to say go with a 
Tulip 21240 (Yes, I know DEC was murdered). On a serious note, I've heard 
that the Intel i8254x gigabit stuff is good. National, Realtek and SysKonnect 
are relatively common amongst cheap cards.
