I second the motion to "(hopefully) close this topic". But thank you for
your GMail invitation.

Subject: Re: [Cialug] gmail invites

That's a pretty short-sighted way of looking at things. The idea of the
list
(as I understood it when I joined) was to share knowledge, information,
ideas,
recommendations, opinions, etc on things at least somewhat Linux related.
This
list has evolved beyond that, to include other topics not even remotely
linked
to Linux, or to computers/technology at all. While the original topic
wasn't
Linux related, it was computer/tech related. In the past, I had offered the
opportunity for others on the list to join GMail, and I received a pretty
good
response. I understood that to mean that this was something people wanted.
When I saw someone else offering the opportunity to join GMail, I thought I
would re-offer my invites. I wasn't trying to sell them, I wasn't trying to
make money off of them, I was just offering them up in case anyone else was
interested. If no one had responded, I would've known there wasn't any
interest. I use GMail, and in my opinion, it is a nice product. I'm sorry
you
feel that spreading the word about nice products that others might find
helpful,
is spam. I don't work for Google, I don't get any money from Google, I
don't
own any of their stock. I do tell people about something if I think they
might
be interested in hearing about it. I know others on the list have sent out
information on products because they thought others might use it. Is that
spam
as well?

I did not mean to offend anyone, and if anyone was offended, I apologize. I
was
simply trying to give others the opportunity to check out GMail. I didn't
think
that would be offensive.

To (hopefully) close this topic, I would add that due to the
flaming/backlash
that has occurred, I will be hesitant to endorse a product on the list. I
hope
this incident doesn't affect anyone else's judgement on what is appropriate
to
be posted.
