PHP doesn't run as a service, it is an apache module. To test it, just 
put a file in /var/www/html/test.php that says:

<? phpinfo(); ?>

...then view that in a browser - <yourdomain>/test.php - You should see 
several pages of output.

It's not a good idea to leave that there - hackers could potentially use

some of the info from that.
