Linux on a PS3Dave Champion brought his PS3 in. It is fairly simple to install Linux on a PS3, there's an install another OS option. Unfortunately, the partition manager allows only one 5GB and one 55GB partition on a 60GB drive. So you can have the PS3 OS in 1 partition, and Linux in another. There are issues with HDMI. He plugged it into a Westinghouse TV and it blinked and came back, blinked and came back, etc. The problem was solved by buying an HDMI to DVI converter. Rips CDs in 3 or 4 minutes. Dual core processor (3.2GHz each) with 6 FPUs. Folding@Home runs 6-8 times faster than Dave's Athlon 64 4600+ Runs Yellow Dog Linux, which is essentially Redhat for Power PC processors. A Cell processor is an offshoot of a Power PC processor. PS3 hides the whole drive from Linux. As far as Linux is concerned, it sees either a 5GB drive, or a 55GB drive, depending on the partition you installed Linux on. Misc.Pingus – An open source game similar to Lemmings. Go to http://pingus.seul.org/welcome.html for more. AA-Lib ASCII Art Library – Displays various things in a terminal window via ASCII art. For example, Doom, aatv (a TV application), and others. There's a demo called BB that's pretty impressive. Check out http://aa-project.sourceforge.net/bb/ for more info. |
