started 'little after 7

A couple students who had volunteered to present tonight came, but didn't present, because studying for Mid-terms trump us.

Chris Hilton did though; full with slides too. His projects are
1. eJourn- goals: journal, keep info private, look up old info, encryption (using string2key), searches, hyperlinks. Publishing (not private)-could be added in the future, using blog library in the middle to talk to various blogging server sw.
Done w/ C, Gtk, autopackage, dlsyms, pthreads, valgrind-debug for linux.
2. Hellpass- password creator: He's made/is making techniques for creating (random, original)pwds that are not simply repeatable by someone else using it, still not total random garbage, while still original. addition goals: list of points to encourage the app to up it's randomness, help for the user to remember pwds.
Done w/ C#, Gtk#, Mono. In a mono relocatable binary. Chris' note on mono: Monodevelop's intellisense is almost as irritating as the real thing, while it's working. It's actually more, because it randomly stops working on you.
Chris' page is at http://www.public.iastate.edu/~chris129/

Louis Skank will be doing a presentation of SAS on linux at the next SAS User group.

Recent bugs seen: adaptec 2410 sata raid controller (low end) turns out to be a sw-hw card (like a winmodem). summary-linux driver support is really flakey. much trouble getting raid volumes totally up & running. end advice:buy 3ware.
a new bug between gnucash, X, & suse, creates font problem so you can't see anything in gnucash.

Stay away from Kemp's case work (CMS for the legal field).

"Certified Outsourcing Professional" is an actual certification now..

Long discussion on work and jobs between the students and professionals that came.

adjourned 9:00
