Meeting Notes - September 21st, 2005

  • Software Freedom Day
    • Performed about 7 or 8 installs, plus about 3 or 4 for one person. Generally went well.
  • Linux Info Fest
    • Get the word out to local businesses.
    • Different than I-Tec because I-Tec is vendor based. Josh Moore has spoken with Novell, and they said they could get people to do presentations. Novell and their partners (MySql and others) would be present. We would require them to preach Open Source, not push their products.
    • Local Linux-based businesses could have business cards to help those who want to make the move to Linux.
    • Possible places to hold Info Fest:
      • Vets
      • Botanical Center
      • Iowa Events Center
      • Seven Flags Events Center
      • Local hotel?
    • Try to get a better rate since we are non-profit.
    • Possibly get a company to sponsor the event.
    • Possible Topics:
      • Asterisk
      • OpenOffice
      • Linux on Desktops
      • Samba
      • Databases
      • Jboss, Resin, Tomcat, etc
      • Mono
      • E-Mail and groupware
      • Security
      • Backup
      • Firewall
      • Any other suggestions for additional companies/presentations?
  • Misc
    • strace –f –o <filename> –p <process> to get lots of information on a running process and write it to specified file.
