Web Parts are one the key components in the SharePoint user interface. They actually predate SharePoint and have since undergone many framework changes. While the product team and third party vendors have provided us with many Web Parts to choose we can always find a good reason to build one more. Web Parts now reside in the ASP.Net domain but with a specific framework implementation for SharePoint.
